In this case push refers to media that are sent to you, as opposed to media that are retrieved by you.
Ex: Point Cast feeds your computer news automatically when it is idle, while web pages are pulled (retrieved).

URL is a standardized way of describing the location of a piece of information on internet so a program can retrieve it.
ex: http://www.beeth.com/carl/carlhome.html
